The Barrel Room

We use only small eco-friendly tanks and the finest hand-selected French oak barrels to produce our wines. The barrel room is very eco-friendly, using no energy whatsoever to keep it cool. The one meter thick walls are made of adobe, a mix of clay-mud and straw, and the roof is protected using very old, heavy colonial roof tiles which were shaken off the Estate House following the World’s largest ever recorded earthquake in 1960 (9.5 on the Richter scale). The tiles were left to the weather and eventually disappeared under the brush and earth. Forty-nine years later, we dug them up and put them to good use.

Even on the very hottest days, the barrel room stays very cool and dark, the perfect environment for barrel aging wines.
